Walk

It could be said that life is a long walk. Physically AND spiritually, it's a long walk.

Where and how do you walk? Just like if you were to take a daily constitutional or regimen of walking exercise, where would you find yourself?

Would you walk a path around a beautiful and peaceful lake? Would you venture through acres of open field?

Perhaps you would prefer the air conditioning of a large indoors mall?

Or...would you enjoy a walk through the city dump, with all of its offensive odors and pitfalls? How about a condemned housing project, and traversing all of the old mattresses, fetid bags of trash, the pornographic graffiti on the walls?

Maybe a nice treadmill? You could walk all day but never get anywhere.

You could find yourself in the very same places in your spiritual walk as well. In fact, that's what the Psalmist is saying this morning.

Psalm 1:1 - "BLESSED (HAPPY, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather."

It's not the physicality that David is speaking about. It's where your heart and soul take its walks.

Yes, it might entail you being physically present, but it's your spirit God is really concerned about.

Are you being led by the flesh (physical) or the Spirit?

Do you act one way all of the time? Inside church and outside? At home and when in church? At bible study? At work?

Or do you have a MSPD (Multiple Spiritual Personality Disorder)?

What leads you? What or who dictates which neighborhood you walk in?

This is important because one could get "mugged" in a spiritually bad neighborhood. One could get in trouble and even "arrested" in a spiritually bad neighborhood. One could lose everything in a spiritually bad neighborhood.

So, best to heed the words of Paul today and always.

Romans 8:1 - "THEREFORE, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit."

Where do you live? Where do you walk? Who are you listening to?

Better it be the blessed company of the Holy Spirit. His neighborhood is the Spirit of Life.

Keepin' it Real,
