The Shepherds. Part of the disenfranchised, the lowly, the poor. They lived out in the fields and probably worked for "the man" raising and caring for the sacrificial sheep and lambs. They essentially had no homes. The stars were their ceiling.
Luke 2:8 (AMP) - "And in that vicinity there were shepherds living [out under the open sky] in the field, watching [in shifts] over their flock by night."
Why the Shepherds? Well, who do you think Jesus should have opted in favor of?
If God had picked the rich for the angels to announce to, Jesus would have probably been smothered in comforts and materialism. He might even have been taken from Mary and Joseph.
If God chose the religious to hear the Good News, they probably would have been led by Herod and the babe would have been slain right where He lay.
It was the Shepherds because they represented the heart and soul of God.
The Shepherd knew something about raising the lowly for greater purposes. They cared for the little lamb that was being prepared to do its duty for the casting off of the sins of the people.
The Shepherd would come to realize that the little lamb in the manger would grow to become the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. The Shepherd of the lambs would have to bow and yield to the soon to be Shepherd of the Sheep. He would become the Good Shepherd.
So, lowly seeker of goodness and grace, have you done that?
Have you bowed your heart to Jesus? He is back in His Kingdom now, but His Kingdom is also here.
Have you become a "subject"? To be a subject you have to be subjected.
Are you subjected or objected?
Today is the time to straighten that out. Let me help you.
If you are living for anything else other than pleasing your King then you are objected.
If you are acutely aware that how you live effects your relationship with Jesus Christ your King, then you are subjected.
I am His lowly subject. I beckon you to join me.
