"Trust Your Stuff"

Trust your stuff. It's a baseball idiom. It's a "brain fix". When a pitcher is in a slump, and his pitches aren't working for him, and it seems more mental than physical, they are told, "trust your stuff".

It works as well in the realm of the believer's mindset. When a believer struggles with issues, or is not living as victoriously as they should be, and when they are paying more attention to sin rather than what's been done to sin by their conversion, they might need to trust their new Holy Spirit "stuff".

Romans 8:6 (AMP) - "Now the mind of the flesh [which is sense and reason without the Holy Spirit] is death [death that comprises all the miseries arising from sin, both here and hereafter]. But the mind of the [Holy] Spirit is life and [soul] peace [both now and forever]."

The "mind of the Holy Spirit". See? That's "the stuff". That is what we need to be trusting. It's been infused into us. It's a part of us. It is the mind of the regenerated new creation in Christ. It's the "new" you. So stop acting like the old you.

The "old" you was eneveloped in sin and it's activity. The new you has been freed from it.

Here's a phenomenon that many believers suffer. Isn't it odd that when you were a sinner you never thought about sin?  Now that your saved it's all you can think about?

That's right. Often there is too much emphasis upon sin. Don't get me wrong. Sin is a killer. It will eat your lunch. It will destroy your relationship with God. It could eventually send you to hell. If in fact you are still sinning. However, that would not be normal for the true believer. We have been washed of sin by the blood of Christ and we are to stop sinning. Why would we violate that and choose to be contrary to what Jesus has provided for us?

Failure to renew our minds and have our thinking transformed is one good reason (Rom. 12:1-2).

The unrenewed mind embraces sin. It says that you cannot not sin. It says you can't live without it. It says you must do it all of the time, everyday, in thought, in deed, and in words. That is the defintion of NOT trusting your stuff.

Paul says we no longer have the mind of the flesh. Now we have the mind of the Spirit. The mind of Christ. No longer are we to be living according to the miseries that sin dictated to us.

Romans 12 is a "brain fix". Start think victoriously. Sin has been conquered. Vanquished. Exterminated. It can only bother you if you want it to. It takes a complete spiritual breakdown of the mind (soul) to revert back to your old losing ways.

In all of your ways trust your Holy Spirit stuff!

Keepin' it Real,

Pastor Kevin <><
